Art'otels


Art’otel has created a niche for itself in the hotel world and has set itself apart from traditional hotel companies that offer little more than overnight accommodations.

Each of the Art'otels in their purest form is the creation of Dirk Gadeke, a Berlin developer and art collector.  Gadeke's approach is "one hotel, one artist" and he uses only well-known painters and sculptors whose work he and his wife collect.

Each Art’otel exhibits the works of a contemporary artist. Like a museum, it  uses the public space of a hotel to present a general perspective of the overall work of one significant artist.  The art displayed is exhibited in an atmosphere created by well-known designers,  and the result is that each art’otel is a work of art in its own right.    The unique appeal of art’otel to the intelligence and artistic interests of its guests – is the key to the experience.



Art'otel Budapest:

The artworks of the well known American artist, Donald Sultan, are on display throughout the hotel in Budapest.   With the artistic concept incorporating carpet, tableware and fountain design, Donald Sultan has made a significant contribution to the style of the hotel creating a vibrant dialogue between baroque townhouses and contemporary architecture.



In the entrance are three large Baselitz lithographs which line the hallway connecting the new hotel through an atrium lobby to the rococo Ermelerhaus.


Art'otel Berlin Mitte :

This Berlin hotel features artworks by Georg Baselitz, and interior design and architecture by Johanne Nalbach.  

Art and architecture are fully integrated in this 109 room hotel in the Mitte section of East Berlin.  The blending of contemporary design with the rococo Ermelerhaus, formerly the palatial residence of a beer merchant which houses a well-known restaurant of the same name, was the work of Johanne Nalbach.  

She designed hovering cantilevered furniture for the guest rooms.  Carpets change hues from floor to floor, appearing in red, green, blue, or aubergine, are inscribed with a quote from Aristotle about the meaning of art.




Art'otel Pottsdam:

The Aart'otels second project was Pottsdam, matching Dusseldorf artist Katharina Sieverding with English designer Jasper Morrison.  

A new building by Jan Roosje, and Ralf Rave is connected to a historical building -- an 1848 Italian castello.





Art'otel Dresden

The third Art'otel project features large paintings by the German neo-expressionist A. R. Penck, combined with the interior design of  Italian designer Denis Santachiara.  

This 174 room hotel is crowned by a sculpture and also includes an art gallery (the Kunsthalle Dresden) that doubles as a conference room.  

Art'otel, Berlin City Center West




Like other hotels in this art-conscious chain, the public spaces are used to present an overview of the work of one significant contemporary artist.

In this case it's Andy Warhol with about 220 of his artworks and photographs on display.

Colour-sensitive guests can even select the shade of their interior-designed "art suite" - from red, green, blue or aubergine.
